Divided during the Cold War, its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of reunification. The city's also known for its art scene and modern landmarks like the gold-colored, swoop-roofed Berliner Philharmonie, built in 1963.

Budapest
Budapest is the capital and the most famous city of Hungary. Buda became one of the centers of Renaissance humanist culture by the 15th century, and Pest on the 17th Novembre 1873: the name Budapest is given to the new capital. Budapest is essentially an outgrowth of the 19th century empire of Austria-Hungary, when Hungary was three times larger than the present country. Hungarys reduction in size following World War I did not prevent Budapest from becoming, after Berlin, the second largest city in central Europe.
Budapest has something for everyone from dramatic history and flamboyant architecture to healing thermal waters and a nightlife that is unrivalled in Eastern and Central Europe. In fact Budapest is known as the "City of Baths," Budapest sits on a fault line, and its thermal baths are naturally fed by 120 hot springs. The city is home to an impressive selection of thermal baths, many of which date to the 16th century.
