The Valensole Plateau
Valensole and its plateau, nearly 12,700 hectares is one of the largest municipalities in France. Nicknamed "the granary of the region", its 800 km2 plateau is essentially devoted to the cultivation of lavender and cereals. It has different aspects depending on the season: the snow-covered peaks of the Alps and the almond trees in bloom in March give way in July to the multiple blues of the lavenders waving alternately with the gold of the wheat. In November, the ocher of plowed land contrasts with the purity of the blue winter sky .
Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, or simply Moustiers, (Mostiers Santa Maria in Occitan) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France, a part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and considered one of the "most beautiful villages of France".
The village was built on platform terraces a hundred or so metres up the side of a limestone cliff. At twilight when the sun on a clear day strikes the south-facing cliff, a diffuse pink light glows across the village.
The Lake of Sainte-Croix is a man-made lake that was formed by the construction, between 1971 and 1974 of a reinforced-concrete arch dam by the name of dam of Sainte-Croix.
